about: Illvibe Blends is a collection of mashups, mixes, and re-edits that has been concieved, engineered and compiled by the Illvibe Collective DJ/Production crew. The concept of blends have been a unique DJ tool for years and the Illvibe crew has pulled together some clever and creative combinations to make up this collection. Typically, the Illvibe Crew has been serving up these types of mixes and blends live, using acapellas and instrumentals. But for the first time, the crew goes behind the scenes to studio-engineer and polish these mixes. With the goal of sharing these party delights, the crew decided to circulate these tracks to their DJ cohorts and now to the music-loving masses.

Mostly drawing from Hip Hop influence, the tracks still manage to span a variety of genres and music styles in the classic soulful Illvibe style. This project features classic songs and verses from Jay-Z, Aaliyah, Biggie, Freeway, Q-Tip, Kanye, Kweli, Bahamadia, Main Source, Blackalicious, Method Man & Redman, Mobb Deep, and more. And the foundation for lots of these blends come from artists such as the O’Jays, Can, The Alchemist, Vanity 6, Zed Bias, Fela, and select productions by J Dilla.

Each of the 5 illvibe members (Mr. Sonny James, DJ Skipmode, Lil Dave, Panek and Phillee Blunt) have contributed a few of the blends making this a true collaborative effort.

Whether listening to the tracks as a collection front to back or using them to get the party live, this project is sure to please the ears and move asses. Enjoy and look out for Volume 2 in the near future.
