about

In 2000, before the formation of what soon to become known as the Illvibe Collective, DJ Phillee Blunt and DJ Panek (then known as Panic) joined forces to create a mixtape for submission to the Rawkus/Cornerstone Mixtape competition (prize of $10,000). Panek and Phillee Blunt were roommates at the time and were starting to make a name for themselves in college and around the city DJing parties along with their partner DJ Statik (now known as Mr. Sonny James). This was their first official release as a team and this format would set the tone for the projects and mixes released over the next 10-15 years as the Illvibe Collective. This was recorded multitrack on a 4 track tape recorder, before the time of multitrack ProTools mixes. It was originally available on cassette tape and also submitted to Rawkus in that form. It was later converted to CD and mp3 formats. As for the competition, the requirements were to incorporate at least 5 Rawkus songs in the mix in order to eligible for consideration.
